The Chosen 1s – Season 1, Episode 4: “Star City”

Written by Antoinette Lavonne Johnson – QueenflixRealityDundidItAgainRCCOIN

COLD OPEN – DESCENT

EXT. ABANDONED CHURCH – NIGHT

Rain lashes the church roof. Beneath it, the trapdoor at the altar yawns open. A metal ladder leads down into darkness.

Antoinette, clutching the glowing map, hesitates.

BISHOP MAALIK
Once you go down there… nothing about the world stays the same.

ANTOINETTE
(under her breath)
It already hasn’t.

They descend. The air grows thick. The ladder rattles under their weight. From below… faint whispers rise.

INT. STAR CITY TUNNELS – CONTINUOUS

The tunnels stretch for miles, walls carved with symbols glowing faint gold. Water drips steadily, echoing like a heartbeat.

Antoinette’s flashlight flickers. Maalik carries a rifle, jaw tight.

They pass murals—humanoid figures stepping out of stars, building cities with light, battling shadowy creatures whose faces look… human.

ANTOINETTE
(whispers)
They came here first… before us.

BISHOP MAALIK
And then we forgot them. Or maybe… somebody made us forget.

A low rumble shakes dust from the ceiling. Something’s moving in the tunnels.

ACTION SEQUENCE – THE GUARDIANS

A deafening shriek. Two massive shadow-beasts crawl from the darkness—eight feet tall, skin like cracked obsidian, eyes glowing red.

One leaps—Maalik fires point-blank. It doesn’t die.

Antoinette falls back, map sliding across the floor. The beasts stalk her, bones cracking with each step.

Suddenly, the walls themselves vibrate. The glowing symbols brighten as if reacting to her fear.

Antoinette screams—the HUM erupts again, shaking the entire tunnel. The beasts slam into walls, stone collapsing over them.

Dust clears. The map pulses like a heartbeat.

THE REVELATION CHAMBER

They reach a massive stone door carved with celestial symbols. The map glows brighter and fuses into the door, unlocking it.

Inside:

A vast underground city with towers of crystal, rivers of glowing water, murals of beings with cosmic halos teaching early humans fire, language, music.

At the center: a golden throne, cracked and empty.

ANTOINETTE
(breathless)
This… this was theirs.

BISHOP MAALIK
The First Ones. The real gods on Earth.

On the far wall, a mural shows the First Ones fighting the Thirteenth Choir—shadowy creatures made of mouths and smoke—while humans hide behind them.

But one mural shows something worse: a First One shaking hands with a shadow being.

THE BETRAYAL

ANTOINETTE
(staring at the mural)
One of them… made a deal.

BISHOP MAALIK
That’s why the gates opened. Not demons. Not hellfire. A betrayal.

The shadows weren’t invaders—they were invited.

HORROR BEAT – THE CHOIR RETURNS

The entire city shakes. Black liquid oozes through the cracks in the floor, forming humanoid shapes with no faces.

The Thirteenth Choir.

Dozens of them.

VESPER (V.O.)
“The key bleeds. The covenant ends tonight.”

Their voices overlap, deafening, like screams through radios.

Maalik cocks his shotgun.

BISHOP MAALIK
Time to move.

The Choir charges as the episode cuts to black.
