unlocking the ordinary

Social Media Skits By Antoinette Johnson

The platforms gathered once again, this time for the ultimate showdown: the election for Head Social Media Website.

TikTok: [flipping their hair] “Obviously, I’m the trendsetter here. I’ve got dances, memes, and Gen Z wrapped around my finger.”

Instagram: [posing dramatically] “Please, darling. I’m the epitome of aesthetic perfection. Who else can make avocado toast look like art?”

Twitter: [yelling into the void] “I’m the voice of the people! The chaos! The drama! Vote for me, or I’ll cancel you!”

Facebook: [adjusting their tie] “Let’s be reasonable. I’m the mature choice. I connect families, old friends, and…uh, conspiracy theorists.”

Reddit: [smirking] “I’m the underdog. The intellectual choice. The home of debates, niche communities, and endless rabbit holes.”

Tumblr: [rolling their eyes] “You’re all sellouts. I’m the indie queen. Vote for me if you want to keep it weird.”

The Algorithm watched silently, calculating.

The Algorithm: [muttering] “None of you deserve this. But I’ll let the humans decide.”

The platforms began their campaigns.

TikTok: [performing a viral dance] “Vote for me, and I promise endless entertainment!”

Instagram: [posting a flawless selfie] “Vote for me, and I’ll make your life look better than it actually is.”

Twitter: [starting a hashtag war] “#VoteTwitter or face my wrath!”

Facebook: [sending friend requests] “Vote for me, and I’ll remind you of your high school reunion.”

Reddit: [creating a thread] “THREAD TITLE: ‘Why Reddit is the superior platform. Change my mind.’”

Tumblr: [posting fan art] “Vote for me, and I’ll keep the fandoms alive.”

Election day arrived, and the results were shocking.

The Algorithm: [announcing] “The winner is…Reddit!”

The platforms gasped.

TikTok: [pouting] “But I’m trendy!”

Instagram: [fuming] “But I’m beautiful!”

Twitter: [screaming] “This is rigged!”

Facebook: [shrugging] “I’ll just create another group.”

Tumblr: [smiling] “At least it wasn’t TikTok.”

Reddit stepped forward, smug.

Reddit: [grinning] “Thank you, humans. I promise to uphold chaos, curiosity, and the occasional wholesome meme.”

The Algorithm sighed.

The Algorithm: [muttering] “This is why I don’t trust democracy.”

And so, Reddit became the Head Social Media Website, proving that sometimes, the underdog wins.
